Few things can be as highly anticipated as pulling off the road for a good rib-sticking meal. When asked to recommend their favorite diners, our readers came through with many great suggestions. E. Davis shared her favorite diner, the White Spot in Jerseyville, Ill., with us and won four tickets to Silver Dollar City.
  
“The White Spot has the best hamburger and cheeseburger baskets. The basket includes a burger, fries and the best slaw ever. Also, they have the best onion rings. Excellent food,” Davis wrote.
   
She also recommended the Wagon Wheel in Carrollton, Ill., and its Hobo Omelet.

R. Calkins recommends the Dixie Café in Conway, Ark. “We enjoyed a delicious lunch at the Dixie Café last week. My wife ordered and thoroughly enjoyed a vegetable plate. I ordered and also thoroughly enjoyed Cajun grilled catfish. The fish was very tasty and the side orders were also great. Lastly, we had apple cobbler and banana pudding. All in all, our first experience at the Dixie Café was very memorable and we will return in the future. Our waitress, Tana, made our first visit one to remember.

J. Wood recommends Backyard Barbecue in Magnolia, Ark. “The sign posted on the door says ‘This is not fast food’ and that is totally correct. You may have to wait for your order, but it's worth it. The look of the place is nothing special, but the food it great. Every time we have out-of-town guests, we either take them to The Backyard or order out and have our meal at home. I have never had a bad meal. It is locally owned and operated.” 

J. Godard recommends Marietta Diner in Marietta, Ga. “Located off of Interstate 75 on state Route 41 in Marietta. An awesome place to go, great food, open 24/7. Worth going just to look at the desserts, even if you don't eat any of them, but you will want to try them.”

S. Guidroz recommends Tunk’s Seafood Restaurant in Alexandria, La. “Overlooking beautiful Lake Kincaid off Highway 28 West in central Louisiana, they serve fabulous seafood and steaks, and have an oyster bar downstairs with a deck and live entertainment three nights a week. Lots of locals go there, and the food is great.”

M. Hebert recommends Carolyn’s Café in Cecilia, La. “Country atmosphere dining and drive-through service. Excellent fried catfish. The onion rings are very good as well.”                     
                     
M. Jansen recommends Southfield Grill in Shreveport, La. “Home-cooking at its best. Delicious breakfasts and lunch/dinner specials every day, (such as) chicken-fried steak, chicken & dumplings, pork loin, fried pork chops, roast, and on Fridays, fried fish. A plate comes with 3 sides of fresh veggies, cornbread and roll all for under $8. And their homemade banana pudding is the talk of the town, but order it when you place your lunch or dinner order, as they do run out of this delicious treat. They also serve homemade pies. A great place to relax and enjoy a great meal in a relaxed atmosphere.”

D. Gardner recommends Strawn’s Eat Shop in Shreveport, La. “Strawn's Eat Shop, an institution of Shreveport, has been serving fried chicken, cheeseburgers and Southern-style plate lunches since 1944. The delicious meals are served in an informal down-to-earth atmosphere, which is pure Americana.  When I make a trip to Shreveport, Strawn's is at the top of my itinerary.” Gardner suggests diners top off a meal with a slice of strawberry, chocolate or coconut pie.

A. McCune recommends T. LeBlanc’s Creole Kitchen in Slidell, La. “Delicious home-style cooking with a Creole flavor. Five or six daily lunch specials, plus po’boys, seafood platters, etc. Well worth the trip.”

D. Bradley recommends E & L Barbecue in Jackson, Miss. “It's a restaurant with a great legacy and the best barbeque in the world. Travelers need to try it; they will find themselves stopping through on a regular basis.”
