What: Manship House in Summer Dress

Where: Manship House, Jackson
The Manship House Museum interprets the life of a middle-class family in the South in 1888. During the summer, the house is arranged and decorated the way it would have been to help the family and the house cope with the heat in the late 1800s when there was no air conditioning. The home is located at 420 E. Fortification St.

What: Sunflower River Blues and Gospel Festival
When: Aug. 8–10
Where: Clarksdale
This festival, celebrated for its authenticity and focus on Mississippi's musical heritage, features entertainment by local and nationally known blues and gospel artists. There will also be lectures and seminars about music and its unique roots. Performances will be held at the Delta Blues Museum’s open air stage.

What: Bright Lights, Belhaven Nights

Where: Belhaven neighborhood, Jackson
Bright Lights, Belhaven Nights is the Greater Belhaven neighborhood’s annual street festival, will be held from 6–9 p.m. The historic neighborhood’s annual arts and music street festival celebrates one of Jackson’s oldest neighborhoods, and the event has been listed as one of the Southeast Tourism Society’s Top 20 Events.

What: Bodock Festival

Where: Pontotoc
For some great family fun, attend this festival around the Pontotoc courthouse square featuring a 5-K run, golf tournament, arts and crafts, games, food, petting zoo and art exhibits. And no Bodock Festival would be complete without a championship bodock fence post throwing contest. Admission is free.

What: Howlin’ Wolf Memorial Blues Festival

This annual blues festival in honor of Mississippi blues legend Howlin’ Wolf, a native of West Point, is held indoors at the West Point Civic Centere. Admission is $15 in advance and $20 at the door.

What: “Our Heroes: Firemen in a Ravaged World”
When: Aug. 29–Sept. 11
Where: Ohr O’Keefe Museum of Art, Biloxi
The exhibitions features photographs from the first days after Hurricane Katrina by Lauren Byrd, a young, native Biloxian with fresh eyes on heroism and the human spirit. The museum is located at 1596 Glenn Swetman Drive in Biloxi. Museum hours are 9 a.m.–4:30 p.m. Monday–Friday, 10 a.m.–2 p.m. on Saturday and closed on Sunday.

What: 30th Annual Prairie Arts Festival

The annual Art Walk event lets artists showcase their talents inside and outside local businesses and galleries throughout downtown Ocean Springs.
