What: “The Child Mummy”

Where: Evansville Museum of Arts, History and Science
Few artifacts are as mysterious and captivating as Egyptian mummies, and museum guests will have a chance to meet one this Fall. “The Child Mummy” exhibit is being brought to Evansville under a special arrangement with the St. Louis Science Center. The mummy is a boy who died at about seven to eight months old and who probably lived during the period of 40 BC to 130 AD. He was likely from an upper middle class or wealthy family since mummification was expensive. Museum hours are 10 a.m.–5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday and noon–5 p.m. on Sunday. The museum is located at 411 S.E. Riverside Drive.

What: Festival of Christmas Trees
When: Nov. 13–29
Where: Dubois County Museum, Jasper
See the many decorated Christmas trees scattered throughout the museum. Designers compete to show the loveliest tables with trees. The museum is located at 2704 Newton St.

What: Winter Art Show
When: through Feb. 5
Where: Angel Mounds State Historic Site, Evansville
The Tri-State Art Guild comes back to Angel Mounds for its third annual “Winter Show,” an art display inspired by winter. Angel Mounds is located at 8215 Pollack Ave. Site hours are 9 a.m.–5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday and 1–5 p.m. on Sunday. Admission is $4 for adults, $3.50 for seniors and $2 for children 12 and under.

What: Ferdinand Christkindlmarkt

This German heritage market heralds in the Christmas shopping season. Four locations, which include two sites brimming with antiques and collectibles, and two locations filled with handcrafted artisan creations are here for your holiday shopping pleasure. The four Ferdinand locations are: Community Center, Forest Park High School, Monastery Gymnasium Antiques Markt and Art Studio Antiques Markt. Market hours are 9 a.m.–5 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m.–4 p.m. on Sunday. There will also be live music, free tours of the Tours of Monastery Immaculate Conception, a marionette performance and more.

What: Downtown Holiday Parade

Where: Downtown Evansville
Now in its 21st year, the Downtown Holiday Parade has become a community tradition for ringing in the holidays. Thousands will gather once again along the downtown sidewalks the Sunday before Thanksgiving to watch the parade filled with beautiful floats, marching bands, clowns, dancing troops and more. The day’s holiday festivities will include the lighting of the City Christmas Tree and the highly-anticipated arrival of Santa Claus. Pre-parade activities at the corner of Fourth & Main will include photos with Santa, free arts and crafts for children and live entertainment. The parade route is scheduled to start at the Centre and journey down Locust Street, turning on Second Street and then will continue up Main Street in Downtown Evansville.

Let downtown Jasper’s colossal Christmas tree welcome you to the O’Tannenbaum Days celebration. What: New Harmony Holiday Ball

Sponsored by Tri-Kappa, the Holiday Ball will feature dancing and refreshments at Thrall’s Opera House. The ball raises funds for local non-profit organizations. Thrall’s Opera House was originally built by the Harmonists as a communal dormitory, but it was converted to a Victorian theatre in the late 19th century.

What: Buffalo and Mistletoe

Experience the sights, smells and sounds of a real frontier and Native American winter encampment where costumed Long Riflemen and American Indians stay for the weekend to demonstrate typical life skills of the frontier era. Tomahawk throwing, black powder demonstrations, open fire cooking and many other activities take place during the weekend. The herd of buffalo graze in the background of this early American scene.
