Spirit without the spirits |

If hosting a holiday partyincluding New Year’s Eveis in your plans, try these non-alcoholic recipes for your guests, taken from AAA’s booklet “Spirit Without the Spirits.” For a copy, call 1-800-222-7623, ext. 6311. Unless otherwise noted, each recipe will yield one non-alcoholic cocktail. Virgin Mai-tai 6 ounces orange juice 6 ounces pineapple juice Dash grenadine Dash simple syrup* Dash sweet and sour mix Pour over ice and serve in a large snifter. Don’t forget paper umbrellas! *simple syrup: In a medium saucepan, cook 2 cups of sugar in 1 cup of water over high heat, stirring constantly to dissolve sugar. Bring mixture to a full boil. Remove from heat and cool completely. |

Virgin Pina Colada 8 ounces pineapple juice 1/2 ounce cream of coconut Blend with ice. Serve in a large snifter. For a strawberry colada, add 1 dozen fresh strawberries. |

Nautica New Orleans (serves four) 1 scoop of fine ice 6 ounces grapefruit juice 1 ounce grenadine 1 ounce simple syrup 2 ounces cream 1 egg white Club soda Blend first six ingredients together. Pour into a tall glass. Fill the glass with club soda. Stir. Garnish with grapefruit wedge and mint. |

Orange Fizz 3 ounces orange juice 3 ounces sparkling water Grenadine Put ingredients in a fluted champagne glass. Add a dash of grenadine for color and sweetness. Garnish with a slice of orange or lime.
Tropical Fruit Punch (serves 25) 2 cans pineapple juice 1/2 can orange juice 1/2 bottle sweet and sour mix 1/8 bottle grenadine Mix all ingredients until blended. For a punch with fizz, add 24 ounces of ginger ale.
