AAA’s enhanced Internet TripTiks are more convenient and easy to use

Published: May/June 2003

Just in time for the summer travel season, AAA has updated its popular Internet TripTik trip-planning program to be easier to use with more features to help you find your way across the country.

The Internet TripTik®/ Traveler, which was rated “Top Choice” by the “Wall Street Journal,” is designed for everyone from the beginner to the computer whiz. Exclu- sively for AAA members, the simple travel tool has advanced features that allow you to customize your route and connect to AAA’s renowned travel database for complete itineraries.

Simply log onto the Web site www.aaa.com and click on Internet TripTik. If you haven’t registered yet as a member, you’ll be asked to do so.

From there, you enter your starting place, destination and any stopovers–up to 10 locations. Then just click on “Create a TripTik” and, in moments, your customized route is complete. You’ll see a map overview of your trip plus narrative directions. Click on the buttons below the map to zoom in and out and to access detailed maps for each portion of your trip.

If you want to find AAA approved lodgings, restaurants and attractions along your route or at a specific destination, simply enter the street address or city, or choose your location from categories like airports, national and state parks, lodgings and AAA GEM attractions. Then, click on “Create a Map” to see all of your options for an area displayed on the map.

You also can position your mouse on a property name to see its location on the map, or click on it to see the listing. Check out as many as you like to find your ideal stopovers. You can find lodgings with swimming pools, restaurants with Italian cuisine or attractions with roller coasters.

Plus, you can see details on AAA member savings at many of the establishments, and you can book your hotel stays directly from the site.

Once you’re ready to go, you can create a full-color printout to take along on the road. Choose just the overview map, or print out your entire trip with large, detailed maps showing every segment of your route.

To make your travel planning even easier, www.aaa.com also has two new functions, both located in the travel section. In an area called Map Galley you can find printable maps of major metropolitan areas and popular points of interest. And in the Regional Road Trip section you can find suggested routes and interesting places to visit on the way.
