AAA picks top vehicles for 2003, including a truck

Published: Mar/Apr 2003

When you’re shopping for a new car or truck, you naturally want the best for your buck, and AAA won’t steer you wrong on your search.

This year, AAA experts named eight cars, two SUVs, one minivan and one "cool car" as 2003 Auto Guide Award Winners. Reviewers also chose an award-winning pickup for the first time ever.

Each year, AAA’s reviewers rate more than 200 cars, pickups, SUVs and vans. They test vehicles on a variety of roads under everyday driving conditions, as well as on a closed track. They rate each vehicle in 20 categories, covering passenger environment, performance, workmanship and value.

Vehicles earning the highest point total in their respective price ranges become AAA Auto Guide Award Winners (see box). Price ranges are based on the dealer invoice price plus destination charges of the base model tested. SUVs are divided into two price classes, over and under $30,000. Minivans are considered as a single group.

In naming the Cool Car, AAA’s editors base their selection on the car’s unique style and fun quotient.
