A guide to child safety seats

Where should the child safety seat be placed?

Child passenger safety seats provide excellent protection if the child is properly buckled up and the seat is correctly secured by the vehicle belt. The safest place for all children is in the back seat. Children age 12 and under should always ride in the back seat. A rear-facing infant safety seat should never be installed in the front seat of a vehicle with a passenger-side air bag, unless the air bag can be deactivated by a safety switch.

When there is no other alternative but to place a child over the age of one in the front seat, push the vehicle seat all the way back and make sure the child uses an appropriate restraint correctly.
